Global steel use to increase by 2.9% in 2013

Worldsteel forecasts that global apparent steel use will increase by 2.9% to 1,454 Mt in 2013, following growth of 1.2% in 2012. In 2014, it is forecast that world steel demand will grow further by 3.2% and will reach 1,500 Mt.

Schmolz revenue down

In 2012, Swiss publicly listed company Schmolz + Bickenbach could not remain immune from the weakening global economy and generated revenue that was below the previous year. It declined by 9.2% to EUR 3’581.4 million (2011: EUR 3’942.9million).
