An invited talk “What Nickel adds to Stainless Steel” was given by the NI’s Peter Cutler at the 5th Stainless Steel Congress in Brno, Czech Republic on 8 April 2009.  It covered the reasons why nickel remains such an important alloying element in stainless steels.  In 2008, around 60% of all the stainless steel produced were nickel-containing austenitic grades.  Key factors are its contribution to ductility, fabricability, versatility and durability.  The presentation can be viewed here
